Stephen Hills runs the business started by his father John on the very north coast of Tasmania in Don, but this entrepreneurial family certainly haven’t rested on their laurels. Initially a market garden providing for a local chain of grocers, the Hills began growing seedlings for the forestry industry following a change of ownership of their biggest customer; with forestry no longer the lucrative trade in the North West that it was, Stephen has repurposed their multi-million dollar plant to grow seedlings for local agriculture (both Elphin Grove and Joua & Kou source their seedlings from Hills). Hills also grow a large range of herbs and other leafies year-round under carefully controlled conditions in heated glasshouses, using the latest in hydroponic technologies.
