This week we’ve got a treat for everyone – delicious freshly picked raspberries from Hillwood Berry Farm, north of Launceston! The true fruit season in Tasmania really only starts in December and goes through to mid Autumn; apples and pears are picked in autumn but are available all year around due to storage.
Raspberries are actually a type of rose – believe it or not! (It explains the thorns, and also the sweet fragrance.) Whilst they’re a summer and autumn fruit, they grow best in climates with a fairly cold winter, and the world’s largest grower of raspberries is actually Russia.
