As we head towards winter, our boxes have a habit of getting fuller – which is simply a result of winter crops typically being cheaper than summer ones, for a whole range of reasons. This week’s boxes are filled up with the first cauliflower of the season (along with iceberg lettuce, both from Southern Fields); pears from Lucaston Park as well as home-grown apples (Cox’s Orange Pippins from John and Geeveston Fannys from his cousin Justin, who recalls these sweet pie apples being the fruit of choice when he used to scrump as a young boy); crisp celery and wombok from Dendra Market Gardens; and plenty of carrots, beetroot and onions from Moore’s Farm Fresh in Scottsdale.
