During our peak fruit season in Tasmania we like to give you the opportunity to eat as much delicious Tassie fruit as possible, so from this week we’re offering our seasonal fruit supplement, which gives you some extra fruit in your box for an additional $10! Our temperate climate is perfect for growing berries and stonefruit, both of which require cool winters, and our fruit is some of the best in the world. This week is all about berries – raspberries and blackberries from Stuart at Bioberries in Breadalbane, just outside of Launceston – and strawberries from DM Jennings & Sons in Cygnet. Stuart selects his fruit varieties for taste and aroma, preferring more traditional varieties over some of the more common commercially cultivated varieties bred for longevity and transportability, and we think you’re going to love the old-fashioned berry taste! David Jennings is a bit of a rarity amongst modern strawberry growers, choosing to grow berries outdoors rather than in weather protected tunnels. You can definitely taste the sunshine, but the other advantage to this is that there’s more second-grade fruit – which tastes just as good – to enjoy at great value prices.
