This week we welcome new supplier So Sweet Tasmania, based in Sassafras in the fertile north-west region of Tasmania. So Sweet is the new incarnation of Sassafras Farm – the previous owner Sandra sold up two years ago and finding contact details for the new owners has proven a bit of a challenge, but thankfully a bit of detective work has paid off! The new owners are continuing to grow parsnips, which is great news as there aren’t really any other parsnip growers on a commercial scale in Tasmania, which is why we haven’t been able to include them in boxes much for quite a while. Even better is that they’re also investigating other crops, such as the carrot bunches in this week’s boxes, something we definitely always value in our growers.
We’re definitely in winter now – in addition to parsnips and bunched carrots, this week’s box is full of lovely root vegetables, including Jerusalem artichokes, Pink Fir Apple potatoes (one of my favourite varieties and a particularly flavoursome potato) and radish, along with cauliflower and broccoli from Southern Fields, fragrant dill from York Town Organics, pumpkin from Bailey Farm and crunchy and tart Pink Lady apples from Lucaston Park Orchards.
