Backyard Bounty all-Tasmanian Vegie box: 6th June

This week’s box points towards some tasty curry and stir-fry options with shallots from Premium Fresh, coriander (with root!) from Richmond Farm, and spectacular wombok from Dendra Market Gardens (which should be a common addition to the boxes in the next couple of months as Maurice says they’re coming on really well at the moment. For my money, I’ll probably make a paste with the shallots, coriander, garlic and some shrimp paste, and use that to make a tasty fried rice with the wombok and probably the carrot and/or radish too, although the kale/silverbeet and coriander wouldn’t be a bad basis for a palak paneer!

June will be the last month for a few things – loose carrots will finish up (although bunched carrots will be intermittently available throughout the winter), the cold weather will also get the better of even indoor tomatoes as the cost of heating starts to outweigh the revenue from selling them, and if we’re lucky we might get one last lot of delicious Cygnet strawberries before they also finish for the season. Southern Fields will continue to grow lovely cauliflowers and mini cos lettuce over the winter but have already finished the large cos lettuce for the season and iceberg won’t be long behind.
