Backyard Bounty all-Tasmanian Vegie box: 24th May

This week’s $30 and $40 boxes feature deliciously meaty oyster and shiitake mushrooms from Cygnet Mushroom Farm – we have to order these a few weeks in advance and are always a highlight when we’re able to include them! Lucaston Park Orchards, a bit further up the Huon Valley, have supplied delicious Pink Lady apples for $30, $40 and $25 boxes this week – a lovely tart apple that eats well but also would make a good cooker, suitable for combining with the rhubarb from Grown for Taste that features as a substitute in some boxes this week.

We’re always pleased when we can not only include Brandsema’s cherry tomatoes but also their delicious red capsicum, and this is also probably the first week this year that we’ve included celeriac in all boxes. If you haven’t used it before, it has two distinct personalities – crisp and fresh raw, perfect for the traditional remoulade; earthy and rich cooked – roasted, baked whole, or used with potatoes in a mash are some great ways to try this.
