Sadly this week we say goodbye to Tasmanian sweet corn from Elphin Grove for this year (unless you’ve taken advantage of the chance to buy extra for the freezer!) Like asparagus, the season for corn is pretty short and we do like to make the most of it while it’s available – distance makes the heart grow fonder, and I’m sure we’ll all be missing it in a month or so. Thankfully the handful of hydroponic growers across the state will keep growing summery tomatoes, capsicum and herbs for a little while longer, but it’s certainly starting to look a little more like winter…
Grown for Taste’s Brussels sprouts patch is booming at the moment – everyone except the $20 box customers get a taste of these delicious treats – and the broccoletti paddock isn’t far behind either. It’s $30 and $20 box customers’ chance to try Maurice’s delicious celery this week, while $40 boxes get a couple of special items – red shallots from Newtile Farm and home-grown feijoas from Margate.
And just to check if anyone’s reading this – happy birthday to me!
