Of the four box types we offer ($20, $30, $40 and budget $25), the $30 box – which we’ve offered since we started in 2013 – stubbornly remains the most popular by far. More of these are packed each week than $20 and $40 boxes combined! The down-side of this is that it can sometimes be harder to include specialty items and items from smaller growers, as it’s often not possible to get the minimum of around 130 of an item to ensure everyone can get one. This week we were hoping to include fennel or the lovely golden beetroot we’ve been getting from Richmond farm in the $30s, but couldn’t get enough of either, so to solve the problem $30 boxes will either get the beetroot or the fennel (factoring in exclusions). $30 boxes also include a bag of certified organic quinoa (pre-rinsed!) which would combine well with either the beets or fennel to make a tasty salad…
It’s starting to a feel a little like spring (as long as you’re wearing a jumper…), and for me nothing says spring like fresh mint. All $20, $30 and $40 boxes get a bunch of mint from Hills Hydroponics this week (which goes rather nicely with radish or beetroot), but there’s plenty of wintry goodies too, like Kylie’s swede, and Brussels sprouts, lovingly weighed into 225 non-plastic punnets by the hands of Mr BB himself! Not a bad week for a roast either, with King Edward potatoes, shallots from Premium Fresh and sweet grey pumpkin from Charlie’s Pumpkins in Cressy, along with fresh cauliflower – ready to get cheesed up – from Ben & Amy in Forcett.
