Clare & Bruce Jackson bought land in Yorktown, near the mouth of the Tamar River, almost thirty years ago after moving to the state from rural Western Australia. After clearing their small patch, they set up a small organic farm, partially funded by sale of the cleared wood, and have continue to grow in a similarly sustainable way, investing their revenue into more land and infrastructure.
The Jackson’s salad greens, roots and berries are certified organic and harvested by hand, and are grown in well-tended raised beds and poly-tunnels. They employ three locals throughout the year, and their son Ben has also recently returned to assist with management of the farm and web presence; even the grand-kids are getting involved!
The York Town Organics range, in addition to local retailers and their own farm gate stall, are often found on the menus of local restaurants, a testament to the quality of what they produce.
