Backyard Bounty all-Tasmanian Vegie box: 17th December

Backyard Bounty veggie boxes started in December 2013 – eight years ago – and while many things have changed since then, and continue to change, we’re still buying produce at fair prices from Tasmanian farmers and packaging up not only mixed boxes of produce, but supplying a unique and creative way of engaging with the Tasmanian seasons through food. Thankfully things haven’t been quite so hectic this year – the pandemic panic last year certainly was a challenging time – but we’ve still managed to support our farmers with your help. This year, we’ve bought the following for you: over 3000 bunches of broccoletti, almost 900kg of eggplant, 7500 bunches of carrots, 2300 bunches of silverbeet, 185kg of raspberries, two and a half tonnes of onions, 43 thousand eggs, 1200 bagels and 43 thousand eggs! These are just examples based on this week’s box – there’s plenty of other fruit and veg, and we’ve also spent over $12000 on freight, mostly with SRT logistics, a locally owned refrigerated freight company who truck produce down to us from our northern growers while you sleep. We’re looking forward to doing it all again next year, and hope you enjoy your last box of the year!
