Backyard Bounty all-Tasmanian Vegie box: 15th October

As usual, Tasmania is delivering an indecisive spring: lovely one minute, blowing a gale and bucketing down with rain the next. Luckily what’s seasonal at this time of the year is aptly suited to sometimes hearty comfort food and sometimes summery salads.

In the warming, rib-sticker camp, you might opt for a buttery swede and potato mash, eggplant moussaka, fried cabbage with bacon and onions, rich borscht or even a greens pie (e.g. spanakopita) with some wholesome Tassie eggs!

If by chance the weather improves, though, you might opt for a simple salad with salad mix, cherry tomatoes and cucumber, throw some asparagus and broccoletti on the barbie, or maybe build up a cabbage-based coleslaw with any or all of radish, apple, walnuts, spring onion or beetroot.

If you’re a doomsday prepper, you’ll probably even have everything you need to make all of the things above apart from today’s veggies, and may even be able to avoid having to brave lock-down shopping…
