Orders for our all-Tasmanian fruit and veg boxes are now open for February! To place an order, just let us know by email what box type and optional add-ons you’d like on each of the following dates.
We’ve made the decision to not offer the $25 fruit-only box for February – this isn’t because there’s not enough fruit available, but rather because on grower predictions we’re not confident we can supply a varied and interesting fruit box each week. However, there’s heaps of fruit about, and we’ll aim to include a variety of fruit in both ordinary boxes and the $10 fruit supplement each week. (Please feel free to order more than one fruit supplement if you feel that $10 of fruit isn’t enough for your needs!) It’s a great time to get preserving now too – if you’re interested in bulk fruit, especially seconds – for jamming and other preserving keep an eye on our wholesale blog for bulk offers!
February marks the beginning of the relatively short green bean and corn seasons, and we’ll also see parsnips, wombok and brown onion make a return to boxes. Whilst the long season of hydroponic tomatoes is a grateful boon in a colder climate like Tasmania, outdoor tomatoes with their big flavour should also make an appearance as we move into the tail end of summer with its long, hot days. Apricots and cherries won’t be around for much longer, but plums – in their many varieties – have a longer season, and apples and pears aren’t far off. Raspberries generally have a holiday in the middle of summer (they’ll probably be back in March) but blueberries and strawberries are still plentiful. Sadly, peaches and nectarines from the Canes in Franklin are going to be like hens’ teeth this year as the winter conditions didn’t facilitate a good fruit set. Avocados are abundant at the moment – don’t forget you can add extra avocados to your standing order for $8/500g, or $65-$70 if you want a whole 5kg tray!
If you’re ordering for the first time or you’re changing your delivery/pick-up status you’ll need to specify which of these two options you’d prefer when ordering, along with any items you’d like excluded. New and existing customers are also welcome to order a single box to try the service first, and as an added incentive, delivery (normally $5 extra) is free with your first box. Delivery is available in a wide range of areas, and we also offer third-party delivery to locations in the Huon and the east coast.
Please email backyardbounty.vegiebox@gmail.com to order for February or for any enquiries, and we’ll get back to you soon!
