Backyard Bounty all-Tasmanian Vegie box: 15th June

This week we’re very excited to be able to include Dendra Market Gardens wombok in everyone’s boxes for the first time! These super-fresh beauties straight from the farm in Cuprona are perfect for stir-fries and fried rice, but if you want to get adventurous you could always try making kimchi, traditional Korean fermented cabbage – something that a few of our restaurants have been very excited to do with the wombok they’ve ordered! Mark & Christine have also sent up an order of a rather special apple variety – Huon Pride – which we think you’ll agree is something to be proud about!

We’re currently working on developing a network of home citrus growers for our box and wholesale customers – this week $40 boxes get some beautiful lemons from Celia, which are a bit of a mystery: the tree was originally a Meyer and had a friend that was a Lisbon; the Lisbon died, but it appears that the traits of the Lisbon have crossed over into the fruit on the Meyer, meaning the fruit are sweet and have a deliciously fragrant zest, without the usual harsher acidity of the Lisbon, but are also larger, more elongated and have a considerably thicker skin. $40 boxes also get the treat of honey brown mushrooms from Tas Mushroom Centre, a variety that’s often quite difficult to get hold of, and is quite a bit more expensive than the regular button mushrooms.
