Orders for our March all-Tasmanian produce boxes are now open!

Orders for our all-Tasmanian fruit and veg boxes are now open for March! To place an order, just let us know by email what box type and optional add-ons you’d like on each of the following dates.

  • 2nd March (ORDERS CLOSED)
  • 9th March (ORDERS CLOSE 6th)
  • 16th March (ORDERS OPEN)
  • 23rd March (ORDERS OPEN)

*Please note that there will be no boxes delivered on the 30th March (Good Friday)

If you’re ordering for the first time or you’re changing your delivery/pick-up status you’ll need to specify which of these two options you’d prefer when ordering, along with any items you’d like excluded. New customers are also welcome to order a single box to try the service first, and as an added incentive, delivery (normally $5 extra) is free with your first box. Delivery is available in a wide range of areas, and we also offer third-party delivery to locations in the Huon and the east coast.

March marks the transition from summer into autumn in Tasmania, and we’re making a couple of changes too that we need to tell you about. Firstly, we will be taking the week of Easter off in 2018 (i.e. there will be no boxes on Good Friday). As a genuinely family owned and run business, that benefits so many other local businesses, we feel it’s important that we can run Backyard Bounty in a manner that is sustainable over the long term. From setting out boxes and tidying up at the warehouse on Sundays to managing pick-up of the inevitable few customers who opt to collect late on Saturday, BB is pretty much 7 days a week – and that’s just the actual day-to-day running of the business! We hope that by skipping one or two Fridays over the year it will not only ensure that we don’t run out of puff, but also give us more time to spend developing and discussing changes that will make the business work better for you, us and the growers we support. We’ll work to make sure that these interruptions largely tie in with existing holidays (such as Good Friday) to cause as little inconvenience to you as possible, and will give as much notice as possible.

From March, we’ve also made the difficult but necessary decision to discontinue our organic $35 and $55 boxes. We will continue to include produce from many of these growers in our regular boxes from time to time, but reliably having access to sufficient produce that meets our organic standards within a viable logistics structure to include in the boxes has been next to impossible some weeks, and we feel we can support these growers more effectively by buying from them in larger quantities for our regular boxes where supply is available, and we also believe that our priority should be in providing the best quality Tasmanian we can provide to our customers, which is difficult when supply of organic produce is so limited.

As we transition out of summer and into autumn, most berries become unavailable, and availability of stone-fruit will also narrow. With less fruit options to choose from, we will continue to offer our fruit supplement ($10) but will discontinue our $25 fruit box until next season. The fruit supplement will then cease from April. Many summer vegetables will continue to be available, but capsicum continues to be scarce with the restrictions on movement of fruit from the fruit-fly exclusion zone in the north of the state. New season onions (red and brown) will become available, along with plentiful garlic supply, and potatoes will also become available in greater variety.

We’ll continue to offer Straight Up Gluten Free Baker’s Super-Seedy and Foccacia from March, and Philadelphia Bakers sourdough loaves, baguettes and croissants will all be available again from the second Friday of March as Corey and family return from their holiday. Banticks Eggs continue to be unavailable, but Olsen’s eggs are plentiful, and Tassie avocados from Avoland should be with us until early April. We’ll also be offering various bulk buys every week for existing box customers on our facebook page – don’t forget to follow us to see these posts.

Please email backyardbounty.vegiebox@gmail.com to order for March or for any enquiries, and we’ll get back to you soon!
