Backyard Bounty all-Tasmanian Vegie box: 18th March

Autumn is just about my favourite time of year: the heat of summer waxes and wanes as it gives way to winter, the fruit season slows down allowing for a much calmer approach to jamming and saucing, and the mix of the end of summer and the beginning of winter allows for a return to warming, slow-cooked fare, but without having to quite let go of the summer salads and light veg dishes just yet.

This box has a foot in both camps – John’s dutch cream potatoes perfect for mash, Joua’s pumpkin offering the joys of pumpkin 12799398_10154119668186337_3078719125312839060_nsoup; but cherry tomatoes (always abundant right as winter starts knocking at the door), cucumber, avocado and corn just waiting for an inevitable warmer day to become an accompaniment to a backyard BBQ.

Speaking of which – Grown for Taste have provided us with a sizeable chunk of their Sweet Domenica onion harvest – perfect for slow cararmelising or BBQ salads, and far milder than the standard brown onion that grows so well in our state. We’re also looking forward to tucking in to the first of the season’s pears from Mark & Christine.

Here’s a full list of what’s in the box this week:
